Tear sheets: Portrait for the Financial Times

Last month I shot a portrait of Mochtar Riady for the Business Life section of the Financial Times.

It was published on all the print editions of the Financial Times on February 29, 2016. It was also published on all the online editions.

Mochtar Riady is the founder and chairman of multinational conglomerate Lippo Group. According to Forbes, he currently ranks #6 in the list of Indonesia’s richest and #854 globally.

Executives have limited time, so shooting portraits is an art that requires a combination of technical and interpersonal skills. In another post I will share more details about how to approach an assignment like this.

Recent work: Multimedia piece for Oxfam Australia

Recently I shot a photo story for Oxfam Australia in Lombok, Indonesia. I also edited the images as a multimedia slideshow, including additional video footage and audio recordings.

It is always interesting to work with multimedia and to see how certain photos, that might not be powerful enough to be used individually, take a strong role once they get added to a sequence.

Today’s office: Jakarta, Indonesia

Today I’m shooting an editorial story at a factory outside Jakarta, Indonesia.

I had been taking pictures for a while when I ran into this:

"Sorry, absolutely no photography"

“Sorry, absolutely no photography”

I guess rules can be broken when you’re touring the factory with the founder and CEO.

Ramadhan starts in Indonesia

Today marks the beginning of the month of Ramadhan, holy to Muslims around the world, including about 200 million Indonesians. For a month, followers of Islam fast from dawn until sunset.

As the bright lights of this Jakarta mall reminded, if you’re feeling hungry (and/or cranky, they usually go together), just keep calm and carry on.
